FROG Amps was born in 2010 from a chance encounter between a crazy visionary and AC/DC lover (Nick), and a ltalented electronics, studio gear and tube amplification genius (Stefano).
The two met by chance in the studio of a mutual friend and, at the beginning, Nick commissioned to Stefano some routine service work on some heads and later some easy mods.
But it's a short step from there... Driven by curiosity and desire to experiment, they decide to build what will be the first real FROG prototype. An overly ambitious project that should encompass the two "Sacred" Marshall sounds*: SLP 1959* and JCM 800*.
The result, despite the great effort and the profusion of excellent quality materials, is very disappointing or, in any case, not in line with expectations.
From this moment the real challenge begins...
We are exactly in September 2010... another 2 long years will pass dedicated to the research of the material and to the study and comparison of innumerable vintage amplifiers (68-76) to understand the Essence, the Personality, the mysterious Charm of that "British Sound" so acclaimed and sought after by every Rock guitarist, in every part of the world... Days and weeks trying and comparing tubes, capacitors, transformers, cabinets, speakers... Nights spent analyzing technical data, values, drawings, circuits... In the meantime Nick meets Luca Cesaroni of Secret Efx (www.secretefx.com), another important turning point in the development of amplifiers because FROG will become the only company to have inside the amplifier the award-winning SECRET 1 LTD, one of the best overdrives out there.
Finally in February 2012 the first Marquee MMCCIII 100w is ready. A real gem... Inspired by a JMP Master Volume 2203 Series, it conquers everyone for its sound and for the innovations that make it decidedly attractive to a demanding public that needs practical solutions also for live use and not just in the Studio . The Della Marquee Dual Master immediately becomes one of FROG's strengths, as well as the effects loop, totally transparent and respectful of the sound. Closely followed by its sister Marquee MCMLIX - Secret Inside an innovative "Plexi" with Dual Master, Effects Loop and, of course, Secret 1 LTD. An incredible head for 70's sound lovers... The two heads and relative 4x12 cabinets were officially presented on 21st October 2012 on the occasion of the Event: ARISTOCRATS Live at Revolution – Molvena (VI).
The first tepid consents begin and from there a growing and enthusiastic whirlwind of requests and interest for the whole production which, in the meantime, has grown and also includes the set of power cables, speaker cables, instrument cables, head covers and crate, tool bags, picks box…
Today FROG Amps represents an evolved and tailor-made reality for the demanding guitar player, bass player, singer, studio owner, live service owner… with a super rich and fine taste, but also for those passionate and beautiful sound loversthat don't necessarily tread stadium stages. The catalog has been further enriched with 36W models, 44/22W models, new 100 and 120W models, MIDI…, 2x12 and 1x12 Cabs, new cables for bass and microphones and the newest EVO:IR Sistem… A new line of Preamp/Boost/Overdrive/Distortion/Power Amp pedals will be available soon…
And it doesn't end there...
Our desire to experiment and learn is exactly the same of the beginning... We can only say that we are happy and proud to have met and got to know a lot of friends and extraordinary musicians... People who have inspired us and very often helped us in development of our products with their ideas and suggestions. Today THE FAMILY includes hundreds of musicians who use our products every day with full satisfaction...
